FACADE: under the surface of every face we see, every person we pass by, a lot more is going on than we could ever know. Cutting away the facade exposes the colorful complexities that swirl around in all of us. As masks are removed, may we also intentionally drop facades to really see one another in a collective reemergence as our truest, most vibrant selves.
FACADE - a BEYONZO collage tape: packages up 40 minutes of hand-built beats sampling records from an ever-evolving personal library, unearthing bits & pieces of gold that were begging to be rearranged, calling for a tweaked tempo until the groove was right... or a legendary emcee to drive the vibe. The ingredients pulled themselves together, resulting in music that’s arguably more compelling as a collage than in its original packaging... billy thompson (dba BEYONZO / scissorhand) has been cuttin’ it up as long as he can remember. Scissors in hand & headphones in ears, he’s always digging, constantly curating and collaging his signature splash of new life into otherwise drab source material - from dusty records to decades-old magazines. In an increasingly digital world, BEYONZO keeps it analog to capture the FEEL that only human hands can render.
BEYONZO kept his scissors sharp thru 5 transformative years living on Maui, cutting up cover art for his weekly radio show Steady Grooves, album artwork for musician pals in LA & Seattle and as always his compulsively created clipartcards. Now 6 months back on the mainland, this show represents a culmination of many various ideas and techniques finally finding their groove in a new scene.
About the artist: Billy is a radio guy by day, working for Seattle’s C89.5fm. You can most often catch him over on the Manette peninsula running in the rainforest, snippin’ sippin’ & spinnin’ in the studio or beachcombing with his dream girl Britt & favorite little guy, Gus.
